You said you needed to get to the elder, right? You'll need to pass through the Cleft of Souls to get there.
The area is held by Teklan Assault Stormers, Teklan Assault Combatants and Teklan Assault Elites. They are stronger and faster than anything you've yet faced. Unfortunately, it's our only option.
When you get close, you should see Barrabo. He's one of the guards defending the Gate, and should be able to show you the way. He can lead you to the elder.
